Following a shooting attempt at the Washington Hilton hotel, news has surfaced that a Steam game allegedly developed by suspected gunman at Trump White::House Press Dinner is being review-bombed. 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, was arrested after allegedly opening fire near a security checkpoint during the event on Saturday. Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that U.S. President Donald Trump and his officials were the "likely" targets of the attack.
The Incident at the Washington Hilton
During the altercation, Allen reportedly identified himself as an “indie game developer.” According to reports from the Los Angeles Times, Allen had previously registered a trademark in 2019 for Bohrdom, a title he released on Steam on December 20, 2018.
The game is described as an “atomic fighting game” that utilizes a chemistry-based model. The official description notes:
- A non-violent, asymmetrical fighting game.
- A hybrid of "bullet hell" and racing elements.
- The inclusion of self-propelled pinballs.
- A heavy focus on chemistry and physics.
Inside Bohrdom and Allen's Background
On LinkedIn, Allen identified himself as a "game dev, engineer, scientist, [and] teacher." His professional history listed him as a self-employed indie developer based in San Gabriel, CA, active from September 2018 to the present.
Allen’s technical contributions to Bohrdom were significant, according to his profile. He claimed responsibility for designing and building the C++-based game, which included:
- Over 750 custom graphics.
- Several custom musical pieces.
- An advanced 2D elastic collision physics engine.
- Custom collision detection functions and rotational components.
While his LinkedIn page also mentioned a second project under the working name “First Law,” that game has not yet been released to the public.
Steam Game Allegedly Developed by Suspected Gunman at Trump White House Press Dinner Is Being Review-Bombed
The sudden influx of attention has led to massive volatility on the game's Steam page. According to SteamDB, Bohrdom typically maintained a concurrent peak player count of only one or two players. However, following the shooting incident, that peak hit 22 players on Sunday, April 26.
This spike in traffic coincides with a wave of negative sentiment. The Steam game allegedly developed by suspected gunman at Trump White House Press Dinner is being review-bombed by users, with the review count jumping from just two users to 70 positive and 55 negative reviews. Most of these recent entries appear to be "troll" reviews with minimal playtime.
The Steam Discussion page for Bohrdom has also become a hub for toxicity, with numerous threads appearing over the last 24 hours. One of the "most helpful" reviews on the page mockingly suggests the developer is using the event as a "weirdest way to get publicity." Currently, the ability to purchase or download the $2 game appears to have been disabled.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
The legal fallout for Allen is moving quickly. According to U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro, the suspect faces two primary charges: using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.
Allen is expected to be formally charged in federal court this Monday. Meanwhile, industry leaders like IGN have reached out to Steam for comment regarding the sudden activity on the platform.
