Xbox CEO Admits Showing Competitor Logos Was a Mistake

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has admitted that showcasing the logos of rival consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch during Xbox events was a "miss." In a recent statement, she acknowledged the feedback and said Microsoft is now evaluating how to "adjust" this approach for future Xbox Showcase events.

"Seeing the feedback on logos. It was a miss, and I own it. We are talking about how we adjust for future Xbox shows," Sharma wrote in a social media post.

This admission came just one day after Microsoft released the latest Xbox Podcast, where Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty reaffirmed the decision to continue displaying competitor logos during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. Booty emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that the company wants to clearly indicate which platforms a game will be available on.

The Shift in Policy and Mixed Reactions

In February 2025, Microsoft announced it would begin showing PlayStation and Nintendo logos during its official broadcasts. This move was part of an effort to increase transparency, and it received praise from many fans and industry observers. Unlike PlayStation and Nintendo, which typically only showcase their own logos during events, Microsoft's decision was seen as a positive step toward openness.

However, not everyone welcomed the change. Some critics argued that Microsoft should focus on its own audience and highlight the exclusivity of Xbox games. With Sharma now at the helm of Xbox, she has promised a "return to our roots" and has hinted at the possibility of Xbox exclusives making a comeback.

A Divisive Response to Booty's Reaffirmation

Booty's recent reaffirmation of the policy sparked mixed reactions. While some appreciated the transparency, others felt it undermined the brand's identity. Sharma's response, while acknowledging the feedback, has drawn criticism from some who believe she is trying to cater to fan preferences at the expense of the Xbox brand.

The Xbox Games Showcase is set to take place this coming Sunday, June 7, and will be immediately followed by a presentation focused exclusively on Gears of War: E-Day.
