Escaping the Sticky Traps of Bloom Biofilm

Navigating the alien waters of Subnautica 2 comes with a unique set of environmental hazards, and few are as obstructive as Bloom Biofilm. This tough, web-like organic gunk serves as a natural barrier, frequently blocking doorways to various colony ruins. While it may seem like a mere annoyance, this biological glue is designed to keep intruders out, forcing you to find creative ways to bypass it.

Clearing these obstacles is not just about progress; it’s also about exploration. Two of the ruins I accessed after clearing the film contained rare posters that were immediately scanned and displayed in my base. Keeping your eyes peeled for these collectibles is well worth the effort required to remove the obstruction.

How to Remove Bloom Biofilm

To clear Bloom Biofilm, you must utilize the Sonic Resonator. This tool is essential for dismantling the organic barriers that block your path to valuable resources and secrets. The process is straightforward once you have the tool in your inventory.

Using the Sonic Resonator

  1. Equip the Sonic Resonator: Select the tool from your inventory.
  2. Charge the Blast: Hold down the right mouse button (or RT on a controller) to charge the device.
  3. Aim and Release: Watch the meter on either side of your reticle. Once it is fully filled, release the button while aiming directly at the biofilm.

The resulting sonic blast will destroy the film instantly, clearing the doorway and allowing you to enter the previously blocked colony ruin. Inside, you will likely find a mix of useful gadgets and collectible posters to scan.

Crafting the Sonic Resonator

The Sonic Resonator is not available from the start. You must unlock its blueprint by scanning the tool found at specific locations across the map. Once unlocked, you can craft it using the following materials:

  • 1x Basic Battery
  • 2x Titanium Ingots
  • 2x Lead
  • 1x Wiring Kit

Sourcing Your Materials

Gathering the necessary components requires careful planning, particularly regarding rare minerals.

  • Titanium Ingots: You will need access to the Processor facility to smelt raw titanium. You can scan one of these processors in the Old Habitat colony ruin, located approximately 350 meters to the north of your starting Life Pod.
  • Lead: Loose lead can be difficult to locate early in the game. Refer to dedicated mineral guides for the best mining spots.
  • Basic Batteries and Wiring Kits: These are relatively easy to craft. Basic batteries are standard, while wiring kits require silver, which you will need to explore for to find.

By mastering the use of the Sonic Resonator, you unlock access to numerous hidden areas, ensuring you don't miss out on the unique rewards waiting within Subnautica 2's ruins.
