Crafting Strong Acid in Subnautica 2
Producing Strong Acid is an essential step for any survivor looking to advance their technology in Subnautica 2. This potent chemical is a critical component in crafting Power Cells, which are required to activate the Tadpole mini-submersible. Without it, you cannot power up the small aquatic craft needed to navigate the deeper, more dangerous biomes.
Unlike Mild Acid, which can be easily harvested from Acidic Raion organisms scattered throughout the early game, Strong Acid demands a more strategic approach. You will need to travel further from your starting point to gather specific resources and utilize a Processor facility to synthesize the item.
Locating the Processor and Necrolei Cysts
To begin crafting Strong Acid, you must first unlock the necessary blueprint by scanning a Processor facility. The most efficient location to find one is the Old Habitat, situated approximately 350 meters north of your initial Life Pod.
Follow these steps to secure your resources and equipment:
- Navigate to the Old Habitat: Leave your Life Pod and head north. Your ship’s AI, NOA, will guide you here to track down a black box, provided you have already located the other boxes it requests.
- Find the Jellyfish Forest: As you travel north, look for a distinct change in the environment. A blue-ish hue and the appearance of tentacled Jelly Lei structures on either side indicate you are entering the correct biome.
- Locate Stilt Orbs: Upon reaching the Old Habitat, turn left toward the large plants with pink tendrils. Nearby, you will find Stilt Orbs—structures standing on pink tentacles with flowers on top.
- Harvest Necrolei Cysts: These turquoise flowers, known as Necrolei Cysts, grow on top of the Stilt Orbs. Use your Survival Multitool to cut off the cysts and collect them.
You will need two Necrolei Cysts to craft a single unit of Strong Acid. It is highly recommended to gather a surplus of these cysts while you are in the area to ensure you have enough for future crafting needs.
Synthesizing Strong Acid
Once you have collected the required Necrolei Cysts, return to your base and construct the Processor. With the facility built, you can now synthesize Strong Acid using the harvested cysts.
While the Necrolei Cyst method is the most straightforward, there is an alternative crafting recipe available. You can also create Strong Acid using Sulphur and Gold:
- Sulphur: Can be found in areas inhabited by large Coral Crabs.
- Gold: Requires you to unlock the Heat Tolerance adaptation, making this method significantly more time-consuming and resource-intensive.
For most players, sticking to the Necrolei Cyst method near the Old Habitat is the fastest and most efficient way to obtain Strong Acid, allowing you to quickly progress toward building your Power Cells and launching the Tadpole.
