One of your primary objectives in Subnautica 2 is crafting new technology to help you swim faster and survive underwater for longer durations. While the Wakemaker serves as your first major upgrade after securing an oxygen tank and basic flippers, obtaining its blueprint isn't immediately obvious.
Unlike the Sonic Resonator, which can be found in a single location, you must locate and scan Wakemaker fragments scattered across the ocean floor to unlock the ability to craft it.
Where to Find Wakemaker Fragments
To unlock the Wakemaker blueprint, you need to scan three specific fragments. These items are hidden in boxes on science lab platforms in distinct locations relative to your Lifepod. Here are the coordinates and details for each:
- Broken Ship Area: Look in a box next to a science lab platform just past a broken ship. This is located 15° north of the Lifepod, very close by, at a depth of 30 meters.
- Open Seabed: Find a desk on a science lab platform in the open seabed, near the Coral Crabs. This site is roughly 120° southeast of the Lifepod, about 25 meters deep and 200 meters away.
- Cliffside Platform: Locate a box on a science lab platform perched on a cliff. This is situated 45° northeast of the Lifepod, approximately 20 meters deep and 200 meters away.
Scanning these parts is the critical step to progressing your underwater mobility.
Crafting the Wakemaker
Once you have scanned all the necessary parts, you must return to an improved Fabricator (one you have built yourself, not the basic one in the Lifepod) to craft the device.
The crafting recipe requires the following materials:
- 1x Silver
- 1x Wiring Kit
- 1x Grease
- 1x Basic Battery
Preparing these components requires further crafting. Wiring kits are electronic items made using silver and copper wire. Basic batteries, which are essential for recharging the Wakemaker, require two copper ingots and an Acidic Raion Pouch. Finally, you need just one Lucifer Rotsac to produce the required grease.
Benefits and Usage Tips
After constructing your Wakemaker, equip it from your hotbar. The device’s twin fans will significantly boost your movement speed while you swim. While it may not offer the same performance as the Tadpole, it provides a massive improvement over standard swimming, allowing you to dive deeper and cover more ground efficiently.
However, there are important limitations to keep in mind:
- Battery Dependency: The Wakemaker runs on batteries. Always carry a backup battery to avoid being stranded at the bottom of the ocean if the power runs out.
- Charging Stations: It is highly recommended to build a battery recharge point at your base. This allows you to charge dead batteries and swap them out when you return from expeditions.
