It has been nearly three years since Mortal Kombat 1 launched, and while NetherRealm Studios has yet to officially announce its next project, rumors regarding Injustice 3 are gaining significant traction. For quite some time, fans have speculated that the next entry in the DC fighting game franchise is currently in the works, and recent reports have provided much-needed validation for those theories.

According to a report from MP1st, In njustice 3 is in active development at NetherRealm. This claim surfaced after an explicit mention of the game was discovered on the resume of an undisclosed artist currently working at Warner Bros. Games.

Evidence of the sequel's existence doesn't stop with leaked resumes. Voice actors for iconic characters, including Superman and Aquaman, have previously teased their involvement in a potential follow-up, further fueling the fire.

NetherRealm’s Recent Release History

In September 2024, NetherRealm development chief Ed Boon shared some insight while promoting the upcoming theatrical release of Mortal Kombat 2. He revealed that the studio had actually decided on its next game as far back as 2021.

At the time of that decision, Boon stated that NetherRealm was "still fully committed to supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for a long time to come." However, the momentum shifted eight months later when Warner Bros. Games confirmed that no new DLC characters or story chapters would be released for the title—a move that sparked significant backlash within the fighting game community.

Since that controversy, NetherRealm has remained relatively quiet regarding future projects. Looking at the studio's recent output, a pattern of alternating between major franchises is visible:
