Details of an unannounced Tales of Eternia Remastered have surfaced on the European rating board, PEGI. While publisher Bandai Namco has yet to formally announce the project, the listing suggests a revival is on the way.
Understanding the Tales of Eternia Legacy
If you are struggling to recall this specific title, you are certainly not alone. Outside of Japan, the game was actually known as Tales of Destiny II. This can be confusing, as it is a different game from the 2002 release, Tales of Destiny 2.
Originally released in 2000, this JRPG begins with a mysterious stranger delivering an ominous message to the protagonist. The story follows a hero chosen to defend those who cannot defend themselves and later inspired a 13-episode anime series.
Platform Confusion and PEGI Rating Details
One curious aspect of the Tales of Eternia Remastered listing is its platform availability. Despite the original being a PlayStation exclusive, PEGI only lists the title for the Nintendo Switch. It remains unclear if this is an error or evidence of a new console exclusive.
The game has been assigned a PEGI 12 rating due to certain content elements. Specifically, the rating cites depictions of non-realistic looking violence towards human and fantasy characters, alongside some bad language.
Bandai Namco has already established a precedent for these updates through their Tales of Remastered Program. Recent or announced entries include:
- Tales of Berseria Remastered
- Tales of Graces f Remastered
- Tales of Symphonia Remastered
Fan Reactions and Future Prospects
While many fans are delighted to see this title join the list, some players have expressed skepticism. Some suggest that Bandai Namco should "slow down these remasters and put some actual effort in," with one user claiming "The Berseria remaster was a joke."
There is also uncertainty regarding which modern features will be included, such as the ability to toggle enemy encounters on and off. However, interest remains high for future projects. Last year, producer Yuki Ishikawa addressed the potential for a Tales of the Abyss remaster.
“If [a Tales of the Abyss remaster] could happen and I could share that joy with the rest of the fans, that’s something I’ll work hard towards,” Ishikawa said at the time.
