You can find silver in caves close to the Old Habitat colony ruins, located around 350 meters to the north of the Lifepod. Although NOA directs you here during a mission to find a black box, there is a really good cave not too far north from the Lifepod that is ideal for resource gathering.

To reach this spot, follow these steps:

  • Head north from the Lifepod, passing the Coral Dome on top of the pillar in the open area.
  • Keep the adaptation tree to your right as you navigate.
  • Look for a ruined colony building straight ahead.
  • Just before the building, look to your right for a concealed cave entrance below an overhang with some Jelly Lei dangling from it.

This cave is incredible for silver, particularly the little nodes you can easily grab by hand. Fill your pockets. If you need to carry more, bring a portable locker to stuff some extra silver in and carry it back to base. You can find a portable locker in the cave directly below the Lifepod, making this an efficient loop for early-game resource management.
