If you'd asked me to guess which hill Capcom would choose to die on, the Street Fighter 6 incest storyline wouldn't have even been in my top 10 guesses. Yet, a month after the addition of DLC fighter Alex, we are stuck with a character who marries his second-cousin/adoptive sister and impregnates her. While being a New Yorker might make this legally fine, it is an incredibly uncomfortable lore choice for any player to digest.

Revising the Street Fighter 6 Incest Storyline

When players began asking "Hey, Capcom, what the hell?", Director Takayuki Nakayama responded by promising to "revise certain text passages that may have been misleading." A patch was released last week to address these concerns, but the result is far from a fix.

Instead of removing the blood relation, Capcom simply made the dialogue more vague. The update changed Alex's World Tour dialogue as follows:

  • Original passage: "He's a cousin of my mom and was a sparring buddy of my dad."
  • Updated passage: "He's a distant relative of my mom or something, and was a sparring buddy of my dad."

Making the Lore Even Shadier

The addition of "or something" makes the whole situation feel incredibly cloak-and-dagger. It feels as though Alex is trying to skirt the specifics because he knows how wrong it looks. This Street Fighter 6 incest storyline has transitioned from being openly brazen to being purposefully shady.

The fundamental facts remain unchanged: Alex is still married to a blood relative, and they have a child together. This is further supported by an illustration showing him holding Patricia when she was literally a baby. If I think about any of this too hard, my head will explode... or something.

It is baffling why Capcom refuses to explore alternatives like childhood friends or neighbors to avoid the controversy. Currently, the situation is even codified on his official wiki, which notes: "Alex is the only known character to be married and have produced a child with a blood relative, Patricia." Way to go, Capcom.
